Importance
The brook trout is extremely important to the ecosystem as it is a native species. It is extremely sensitive to pollutants so it is an indicator of quality water.
What does it eat
The brook trout is an opportunistic predator, eating anything that flows past it. It mainly feeds on macroinvertabrates (mayfly and stonefly larvae) but also feeds on small vertebrates such as other fish and amphibions.
